Fund Manager

On a day-to-day basis the "life" of a mutual fund is orchestrated by the fund manager. This investment professional is the individual responsible for mapping an investment strategy for the fund developed in concert with a staff of researchers and analysts. Based on this information, the fund manager buys and sells assets to keep the performance of the fund in line with the stated goals of the investment strategy.

Typically fund managers are individuals with a considerable record of high performance in the trading of securities. They will possess not only extensive market knowledge and education, but will be financial professionals who have exhibited a high degree of market savvy, or acumen, a kind of intuitive ability to read the market's financial trends as they respond to a complex interplay of socio-economic factors in the nation and around the world. Typically fund managers will author some kind of report or newsletter to inform shareholders of the reasoning behind day-to-day fund trading.
