Day Trading

In the practice of day trading, the investor buys and sells stocks and securities within a single trading day with the hope of identifying and capitalizing on price trends. Day trading is a highly risky method of investing and is entirely dependent on timing and judgment with the underlying idea being to "get in and out" quickly and with an accrued degree of profit.

In general day trading has been regarded as the investment equivalent of gambling and is viewed askance by more traditional and conservative investors suspicious of the overall "get rich quick" air of the strategy. The Internet, however, has caused a resurgence in day trading by making real-time stock information readily available in conjunction with venues for low cost "do it yourself" trades.

Although legend abounds about day traders who have gotten wealthy in a day - and some of those stories are true - day trading requires an exceptionally keen understanding of the market coupled with nerves of steel and both mental and phys ical qualities of endurance.
