Commodity InvestmentA commodity can be a good or a service that is for sale. It can include energy sources, raw materials and other goods. A soft commodity is something that is grown such as sugar or fruit. Investment in commodities is popular because a commodity such as electricity is always needed and therefore always has value. The same applies for commodities that are involved in food products. The value of a commodity can depend on the cost it takes to produce it and supply it to the public and its value when sold per unit. The value of commodities can change according to season as many commodities supply to an increased demand at certain times of the year. For example, electricity is used more during darker, colder months as a heat and light source and the value could potentially increase during these months. People invest in commodities as a way to diversify their portfolios but also because they are familiar with the products that they are investing in and may have more confidence in their security.
