Before making improvements you should take a look at the other houses around yours. Learn what your neighbors are focusing on so you can improve the same areas and add value to your home. This way you won't waste time and money on improvements that aren't going to make a difference to buyers. Even when you know what you need to improve it is a good idea to stick only with minor improvements if you plan on selling.

If you need to remodel consider doing as much of the work as possible yourself. While this may mean having to do more work and take up more time, it can be a cheaper investment than hiring someone to do it.
